As a part of our mission, ACT announces a script development program for emerging playwrights who reside in the state of Minnesota. This program intends to encourage the development of new one-act or full-length scripts toward the ultimate goal of production. Only scripts that have not already been fully staged will be considered. There is no cost to participate.

Submit the following materials to ACT by email:

  • Brief plot synopsis

  • Entire script in PDF format

    • Script cover page includes the title, script version number, date, the author's or authors' names, mailing address, and phone/email contact information

    • Performed length

      • One-act scripts are to be 30-40 minutes of stage time, with no lengthy scene changes, and no intermission

      • Full-length scripts are to be 75 minutes or longer of stage time, with no more than one intermission

  • Summary of production details

    • Character descriptions

    • Cast size (seven or fewer is optimal; up to ten is workable), including M/F and doubling (if applicable)

    • List of sets and set pieces (ACT performs on a small black box stage with little offstage storage space)

    • Prop list by character

    • Special or unusual production requirements

What playwrights can expect from ACT:

  • Initial response within one month of submittal

  • Upon acceptance into the program, a thoughtful review by playwrights whose works have been produced by ACT and other theater companies

  • Within two months, ACT will determine whether the script development process will benefit your work in one or more of the following ways (times are approximate):

    • Comments for revision (and possible re-submittal) within three months

    • Table read within six months

    • Staged reading before a live audience at an ACT event within nine months

    • Consideration for a full production by ACT within one to two years

A full production may be followed by a request to serve on the script development committee for one year.
